To see and hear what is here, instead of what should be, was, or will be. To say what I feel and think instead of what I should. To feel what I feel instead of what I ought. To ask for what I want instead of always waiting for permission. To take risks on my behalf, instead of choosing to be safe and not rock the boat.

Cara (care-uh) is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and postdoctoral resident in clinical psychology. She earned her bachelor's in psychology with a focus on human development from DePaul University and a master’s in marriage and family therapy from Northwestern University. She obtained a second master’s and a doctor of psychology (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology at Adler University and completed her pre-doctoral internship at a community mental health setting in Chicago. Cara has extensive experience working across diverse environments, including residential and inpatient facilities, community mental health centers, correctional institutions, medical settings, and private practice.

Cara takes an integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based methods to support her clients. She is committed to creating a therapeutic space that emphasizes openness, inclusivity, and a sense of being genuinely seen and heard. Cara approaches therapy with a willingness to listen and a deep respect for each client’s unique experience. As a white, cisgender therapist, Cara acknowledges the impact of identity, privilege, and power dynamics in the therapeutic space. She believes that trust is not assumed but built through ongoing collaboration, curiosity, and care.

Cara employs an array of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Cara is a level 1 Gottman certified therapist and also holds a certification in DBT. She utilizes LGBQ+ and TGNC affirmative practices, with a strong emphasis on cultural humility. Cara is dedicated to providing a safe environment where clients can explore their identities, relationships, and the systems they navigate.

Outside of the therapy space, Cara enjoys spending time with family, baking, and walking her two yorkies.
